Typhoon Melor Oct 2009 (13 photos)
A strong typhoon with wind gusts of more than 210 kilometers per hour hit the main Japanese island of Honshu the morning of October 8th.
Typhoon Melor caused the cancellation of more than 200 flights in western Japan and knocked out power to more than 10,000 homes in the southern islands.
Melor could also dump up to 50 centimeters of rain and is tipped to be the first major typhoon to hit the densely population main island of Honshu in two years.
Japan's weather bureau issued high-wave warnings and there are fears of flash floods and landslides.

Universal Studios Japan (10 photos)
Universal Studios Japan (ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン, Yunibāsaru Sutajio Japan), located in Osaka, Japan is one of three Universal Studios theme parks, owned and operated by USJ Co., Ltd. The park is similar to Universal Orlando Resort, since it contains many of the same rides. Most visitors are Japanese tourists or tourists from other Asian countries such as the Republic of China (Taiwan), the People's Republic of China, and Republic of Korea (South Korea). In 2005 Goldman Sachs became the largest shareholder in Universal Studios Japan. Universal still has a small minority stake in the park. The park opened on March 31, 2001. 11 million guests entered Universal Studios Japan in its first year of operation, the fastest any park reached that milestone.

Numazu Summer Festival – Numazu Natsu Matsuri (37 photos)
Numazu’s south side comes alive with row after row and street after street of food and other festival stalls. Elaborate shrines shouldered by chanting locals wearing traditional garb and broad smiles. Just be careful not to look too enthusiastic or you might find yourself being drawn into help shoulder one of the shrines. Drums beat their tattoo up and down the street competing with dancing groups belting out songs and vendors selling their wares.
Each night ends with a fireworks extravaganza along the crowded Kano River, where your free to walk under and around them to get the best view. The only bad part is year by year basicly the only thing that changes is maybe the sponsors. So if you see it once, you've seen it every year.

Hida-Takayama 2006 (11 photos)
Hida-Takayama has preserved the feeling of a castle town, apparent by its history-filled streets. With the latticed bay windows and linked eaves of merchants' houses in Sanmachi Suji, the enduring historical temples and shrines of Higashiyama, and the reproduction of Hida's traditional mountain farming villages of sloped-roof houses at Hida Folk Village, the town itself could be called a sightseeing spot. The Takayama festival held in spring and fall is known as one of the three most beautiful festivals of Japan.
